CBD Blog in action for Anxiety/Mood disorder

CBD, traditionally known as cannabidiol, is the biggest buzzword of 2020. Featured in a wide variety of products, such as tinctures, topicals, and edibles, CBD is a health and wellness staple. CBD’s recent popularity comes from its ability to naturally treat a wide variety of ailments. Cannabidiol is used to relieve tension, ease pain, and reduce anxiety. How It Works:

In the 1990s, scientists discovered the endocannabinoid system. These lipid-based, neurotransmitters bind to cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) which regulate a wide range of key body processes, including:

CB1 alters serotonin, a neurotransmitter that impacts the entire body. While the link between CBD and CB1 isn’t fully understood, scientists speculate that CBD interacts with 5-HT1a receptors that control serotonin levels in the brain and body. In turn, 5-HT1a receptors bind serotonin and reduce anxiety symptoms. 

What the Research Says: 

In 2015, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) noted that CBD reduced anxiety in rats. Four years earlier, the British Association for Psychopharmacology found that CBD reduces Social Anxiety Disorder. Participants received 400 milligrams of CBD or a placebo. Those who received CBD reported reduced levels of anxiety throughout the study. 

Scientists have also found links between CBD and anxiety-related insomnia. The Perelman School of Medicine found that CBD improved the sleep quality and sleep-wake cycle in small animals.  Pubmed.gov noted that 80% of participants in a 2019 study reported lower levels of anxiety and improved sleep scores for two-third of people. Participants received a small dose of CBD (around 25 mg a day) and showed continuous improvement over a two-month period. On another positive note, CBD was well-tolerated in almost all of the patients. Emerging research claims that CBD oils and tinctures have less negative side effects than certain, routine psychiatric medications. 

Will CBD Work for Me?
